Redesign of the website of Belnet, a public institution within the Belgian research and education network
Simpl. led the redesign of the Belnet website in 2024. Belnet is the IT partner for Belgian academic and cultural institutions and provides dedicated internet access for education, research and public services. The redesign aimed to create a more intuitive, faster, accessible and fully responsive website, with an information architecture optimised for user experience and search engine optimisation.
What was the challenge for the academic sector network operator?
Belnet’s old website had limitations in terms of modernity, mobile compatibility and SEO. Its target audiences — universities, hospitals, research centres and cultural institutions — needed to be able to quickly identify the services relevant to them. The challenge was to clarify the technical offering and make it accessible on all devices, without information overload.
How Simpl. structured the redesign
Simpl. rebuilt the interface around seamless navigation that works across all browsers and systems. The site’s structure was optimised to improve the user experience and guide visitors to essential services. The redesigned site is fully responsive and viewable on computers, tablets and mobiles.
A Solutions section that is immediately understandable
The redesign of the Solutions section makes Belnet’s offering clearer to its audiences. Key areas, including medical research and higher education, can be identified in a matter of seconds. Realistic, contextualised photographs allow universities, hospitals and public services to recognise themselves in the use cases presented, which builds trust in the services offered.
A blog post template optimised for SEO
The new blog post template enables Belnet to publish content that is more readable on computers, tablets and mobile devices. The content is structured for search engines, which supports its ranking on Google. Integrated share buttons make it easy to share articles on LinkedIn, X and Facebook with academic audiences. This feature helps Belnet showcase its IT expertise in a regular and accessible way.
A homepage that directs users to the right services
The new homepage guides visitors to essential services without information overload. Tabbed navigation allows universities, research centres and cultural institutions to quickly access useful content. This structure aids understanding of the services on offer, supports SEO and helps guide visitors.
What results for Belnet?
The project delivered a fully responsive website, functional across all devices and browsers. It provided Belnet with a streamlined Solutions section, a blog template optimised for SEO and social sharing, and a homepage structured around essential services.
