Visual identity for a European Horizon 2020 project
Simpl. designed the visual identity of URBAN-WASTE, a European Horizon 2020 programme coordinated by 27 partners including ACR+. Logo, charter and print materials to support three years of scientific output and the mobilisation of tourist cities.
The challenge
URBAN-WASTE is a European Horizon 2020 project run from 2016 to 2019 under the leadership of the Government of the Canary Islands, with 27 partners including ACR+. Its goal: to help tourist cities reduce municipal waste production and develop reuse, recycling, collection and treatment. Eleven pilot cities and regions implemented the strategies, from Tenerife to Dubrovnik via Lisbon, Copenhagen and Nice.
A project of this scale, multi-partner and multilingual, needed to carry a visual identity recognisable from one deliverable to the next. The challenge: to equip URBAN-WASTE with a coherent logo and charter, deployable across print materials and across all the consortium's output for three years.
Our approach
Simpl. created the logo and visual identity of URBAN-WASTE, then applied this identity across the project's print materials. The graphic charter serves as a common reference for the 27 European partners, ensuring the visual consistency of the output despite the diversity of contributors.
The identity supports the project's deliverables: guidelines for local decision-makers and their 22 methodological factsheets, a commitment charter for sustainable resource management, and materials for conferences and capitalisation events. The graphic system remains legible in European institutional contexts as well as in the local contexts of the pilot cities.
The result
Simpl. equipped URBAN-WASTE with a complete visual identity, applied to the project's print materials over the duration of the programme (2016-2019). The project resulted in guidelines accompanied by 22 methodological factsheets, a commitment charter signed by 18 cities and regions, and a final conference held in Brussels in May 2019.
