In brief
- •What transforms WordPress into an agentic CMS? WordPress evolves through the Abilities API, which allows artificial intelligences like Claude or ChatGPT to interact directly with extensions and the system core. This transformation enables more automated and intelligent site management.
- •How can one visualize the capabilities available for AIs? The "Abilities Explorer" extension allows you to see all capabilities registered by extensions and the theme in a centralized registry. The more compatible extensions you have, the more deterministic your site becomes and the less prone to errors during AI interventions.
- •What can an AI like Claude concretely accomplish on WordPress? Claude can create complete projects like a real estate website with Custom Post Types, ACF field groups, taxonomies, and even fictional content for visualization. This capability makes it possible to quickly structure complex projects from a simple request.
- •What are the risks with very powerful extensions like NovaMira? NovaMira offers very broad access including PHP code execution and WP-CLI, which considerably increases the risk of errors. Particular caution is necessary, especially for beginners and on production sites.
WordPress is no longer just a content management system. It is rapidly evolving into a genuine agent-oriented CMS, able to interact with artificial intelligence tools such as Claude or ChatGPT. This transformation, which began with the Abilities API, opens the door to more automated and intelligent site management.
Key Takeaways
- WordPress now includes an Abilities API that lets AI interact with plugins and the CMS core.
- The “Abilities Explorer” plugin shows every ability registered by plugins and the theme.
- Plugins such as ACF can be enabled to expose their features to AI through “abilities”.
- Claude can now create complete WordPress structures, such as Custom Post Types and ACF fields, from a simple request.
- The NovaMira plugin offers extensive capabilities but calls for extra caution because of how powerful it is.
The Era of Agentic CMSs with WordPress
WordPress is changing. It is no longer just a tool for building websites; it is becoming an agentic CMS. But what does that actually mean? Quite simply, your WordPress site can be managed by artificial intelligence. Let’s look at why, and how it works.
The real revolution does not come from connectors, but from a feature introduced in late 2025: the Abilities API. This is what allows WordPress to speak the language of AI.
Exploring Your Site’s Abilities
To understand what is going on, you need to install a plugin called “AI” (formerly “AI Experiment”). Once activated, it adds a new menu: “Abilities Explorer”.
This tool is really useful because it shows you every “ability” registered in WordPress. Picture a large registry in which all your plugins and your theme record what they can do. These abilities are intended for language models such as ChatGPT or Claude. They are not limited to creating content; they also cover plugin settings, such as those of SEO plugins, and global site settings.
The more plugins you have that register these abilities, the better suited your site becomes to AI-driven management. This is what makes your WordPress site more deterministic and less prone to errors when an AI steps in.
Unlocking Abilities with ACF
Let’s take a concrete example: the ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) plugin. For it to expose its features to AI, a small extra step is sometimes needed. In ACF’s case, all it takes is adding a short snippet of code.
Once this code has been added and the plugin activated, go back to “Abilities Explorer”. You will see that the number of abilities has increased, and many of them come from ACF. This means Claude or ChatGPT can now interact directly with custom fields, Custom Post Types and much more.
Claude Builds a Real Estate Project
To show you how powerful all this is, I asked Claude to create a complete project for a property listings site, specifically using ACF’s abilities. After connecting my WordPress site to Claude (there is a guide for this), I gave it a simple instruction: “Generate a real estate website for me, focus on the ACF side: create the Custom Post Types and custom fields, organise everything, and create a property listing.”
The result is impressive. Claude created:
- A “Real Estate” Custom Post Type.
- Several ACF field groups.
- Taxonomies such as “Area” and “Status”.
It even offered to add dummy properties to preview the result. It is remarkable to see how quickly an AI can structure a complex project.
The NovaMira Case: Power and Caution
Now let’s talk about NovaMira. This plugin is often described as very powerful, but it calls for particular caution. Unlike other plugins that expose well-defined abilities (such as creating CPTs or taxonomies), NovaMira gives much broader access to your site.
For example, it can run PHP code directly or use WP-CLI. It is like opening Pandora’s box. On the one hand, it lets you do incredible things and speeds up work enormously; on the other, it increases the risk of mistakes if you do not fully understand what you are doing.
It is therefore advisable to be especially careful with NovaMira, particularly on production sites. I use it on my own sites, but that is because I understand the risks and stay in control. For beginners, it may be wiser to start with plugins that expose more targeted abilities.
The Future of WordPress
WordPress is clearly heading towards a future in which AI will play a central role. The most popular plugins, such as ACF, Elementor and SEO plugins, are already adapting by exposing their abilities. This means your productivity will increase tenfold. You will be able to build sites faster, more easily and perhaps even better-looking than before.
The job is changing: it is no longer just about coding or configuring, but also about knowing how to steer an AI. You will need to learn to work in a hybrid way, combining your intelligence with that of AI. Just because AI can do certain tasks does not mean you should hand everything over to it. You will need to keep an eye on things, write precise specifications and stay in control of the process.
In short, WordPress is becoming an agentic CMS. It is an exciting development that will change the way we work. Now is the time to prepare and learn to use these new tools to stay ahead.

An organisation’s website is often the result of decisions accumulated over a decade. A redesign in 2015, a new logo in 2019, a form added at short notice during the Covid pandemic, a members’ page that nobody updates. The result: a website that exists, but doesn’t really work for the organisation.
